Children often complain of a “sore tummy”. What should you do about this?
Should you ignore it, comfort your child or investigate?
Tummy / abdominal pain can come from so many causes / illness that these children should have a full paediatric assessment.
The degree of investigation would depend on the severity and length of the pain.
The list of problems can include:
- Colic in babies
- Gastric reflux
- Abdominal migraine
- Helicobacter pylori infection
- Constipation
- Twisted bowel (mal rotation)
- Appendix
- Urine infection
- Gluten intoelrcae
- Cows milk allergy
- Stres and functional pain
To work this out usually requires blood tests, poo tests, and sometimes endoscopy, ultrasound or x-ray.
We can organise all of this for you at The Childrens Clinic | Allergy Centre, Christchurch.
